File the New Jersey Certificate of Formation to create the LLC. Use the separate NJ-REG application for the business’s tax and employer registrations.
This guide covers forming a new New Jersey LLC. If your LLC already exists in another state or country, use the foreign-registration process instead.

Before you file in New Jersey
Prepare the name, main business address, New Jersey agent, business activity and organizer.

New Jersey registration services ↗
- Start a domestic LLC Public Record Filing/Certificate of Formation through Treasury’s formation service.
- Enter the name, agent and business details. Answer required identification fields accurately; do not invent an EIN.
- Sign and submit, choosing any optional copies or certificates you need. Save the Certificate of Formation and business ID.

What to enter in the form
- Name and designator
- If the service asks for the name and LLC ending in separate fields, enter the ending only in its designated field. This avoids adding LLC twice.
- Agent and main address
- The agent’s New Jersey office and the main business address have different purposes.
- EIN / activity
- Supply the identification and activity information requested for your filing. This does not submit NJ-REG.
- Organizer
- The organizer signs the formation filing. Record the owners and their interests in the operating agreement.
