What our guides cover

Our guides explain how to form and maintain an LLC using public filing information. They help you prepare a filing and identify questions for the responsible office or an adviser. Choosing a structure, state or tax election still depends on your business.

How we use sources

We use responsible government agencies and primary documents for filing fees, forms, deadlines and special requirements. Other educational websites can help identify topics to investigate; their statements do not replace checking the underlying official source.

We distinguish the formation filing charge from optional services, mandatory additional filings, licenses and taxes. When a charge depends on the filing method, number of members, assets or another condition, the guide must state that condition alongside the amount.

What the dates mean

“Sources checked” records when we reviewed the listed sources. “Updated” records a change to the article; it does not mean every source was checked again. A publication date records the first release. We also distinguish a source’s revision or effective date from the day we accessed it. Rules can change after a source check.

When an amount or requirement cannot be verified, we should say so or direct readers to the current filing office rather than invent a number. Processing estimates are not promises of approval.

Tools and drafting

We use AI-assisted tools to organize research, draft explanations and check the site. Tool output is not evidence on its own. Factual claims should be supported by the sources shown with the guide. We do not present AI-generated text as a licensed professional’s review or invent an author’s credentials.

Corrections

When a credible correction is received, we compare it with the responsible authority’s current guidance and update the affected content when appropriate. A useful report includes the page URL, the statement at issue and the official source. Contact details are listed on our contact page when available.

Commercial relationships

Affiliate and sponsored relationships should be disclosed near the relevant recommendation. Readers can consult our affiliate disclosure for more information. Payment is not a substitute for evidence, and a third-party service should not be described as required when the filing can be completed directly.

Service reviews

Our LLC service comparison covers formation providers, including disclosed affiliate partners. Reviews compare published offers, included services, ongoing costs and cancellation terms. We identify unverified prices and conflicts between official pages. These reviews do not claim first-hand purchases, support tests or measured filing times, and they do not assign star ratings. The comparison explains its scope and method.
